The mail carrier brought me gifts today!

  • Thank you, Marina, for finally returning the Empire Records DVD you borrowed a year ago. Also, thank you for the two books which came today: Adventures in Marxism and Mere Christianity. (The ones that were ordered right in front of me — immediately after I had added them to Marina’s virtual shopping cart — and whose titles I had forgotten moments later. The arrival of the package was then a nice surprise… seeing as how it wasn’t supposed to be a surprise at all.)
  • I love Trent for scaring me into thinking he sent me Teenage Caveman… when, in reality, Donnie Darko arrived in the mail today.
  • From Stephen, I received a B&N gift card… which will probably be spent tomorrow. If I can bring myself to shower and leave my house, that is.
  • My sister, Diana, bought me two DVDs off my wish list: Bambi and Pirates of the Caribbean.
  • Diana’s boyfriend, Eugene, got me Memento, making me an incredibly happy girl… with a lot of DVDs.
  • Lastly, thanks to all the family members and friends of the family who came bearing cash. This has been my most prosperous year ever, haha.

Thanks, everyone! It felt like my birthday all over again ♥

I have been living in a bubble for the last… five years. I was entirely too at ease within my comfort zone, never stepping out of it. Well, on Saturday night, I made a leap that should’ve sent me into a corner, crying.

It was 10 PM on Saturday night when I went on AIM and saw that my friend Kate was online. We got to talking and I told her how badly I had wanted to get out of my house. (I guess that’s what happens when you stay indoors for weeks at a time. During the summer, I don’t even have the escape of school.) She said, “If it’s not too late, you can come over here. My boyfriend is bringing a couple of his friends over — we’ll just hang out.” Just the prospect of “a couple of his friends” had me hyperventilating. But I decided, No, I need to do this. I can’t live in front of my computer for the rest of my life.

I went to see Madagascar yesterday with Marina. I actually didn’t pay for my ticket… although it only cost $1.50. (I guess I’ll give her the money when she gives me back my Empire Records DVD, which she’s had for the last year or so. I’m not trying to make her feel bad, I swear!)

Madagascar

It was an adorable movie — amusing, too. However, it’s not the type of movie you’d take children to see. There are many pop culture references that are only entertaining for the ones who know what’s being spoofed and mocked. (I think I belong in the former category: Marina had to point out several of these references to me. For example, I did not catch the Planet of the Apes connection.)

It was wonderfully animated and had an interesting plot — as well as a motley of characters. (I loved the penguins. I want me one!) The humor was mildy funny, as I did no more than just snicker. However, I’d probably buy the DVD

Marty the Zebra: The penguins are doin’ it, why can’t I?
Alex the Lion: The penguins are psychotic!
