Since I never know what to wear (and have panic attacks when trying to plan an outfit for the day), figuring out what to wear while on my bike (to ride the 3mi [4.8km] to work) is even harder. So I’m going to try to keep track of my more comfortable outfits based on the weather.
It was in the 50s (10-15°C) yesterday. I try not to be too Lance Armstrong-y about my outfits but I need to stay warm and dry. (I’m a generally sweaty person. In warmer temperature, I bring an entire change of clothes with me to work.) This is what I wore (and what is pictured here):
- Pearl iZUMi Transfer Long Sleeve Baselayer
- Pearl iZUMi Women’s Elite Barier Convert Jacket (sans sleeves)
- Pearl iZUMi Select Gel Cycling Glove
- UNIQLO Boyfriend Fit Chino Trousers
- Converse Slip-On Oxfords
On my ride to work in the morning, I was a little chilly. (The temperature was in the mid-40s at 9 AM.) However, I arrived at work feeling relatively warm and virtually sweat-free (score!). I changed just my top (and rolled down my pant legs) and off I went to work. It was then that I quickly put on a sweater and scarf I keep at work because it is freezing in the office.
The ride home was even better because it had gotten warmer (mid- to upper-50s): I didn’t feel too hot or too cold, it was just right. I would maybe wear thicker/longer socks. I am also still trying to figure out the best footwear for the occasion.
Any other cyclists out there want to share what you wear on your commute in 50°F weather?
